bloom /// Venus/FREAK ///
‘bloom’ is a solo study that draws from Tan's creative practice and research on the philosophy of image and gaze on the feminised performing body. ‘bloom’ has been performed at the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (London, UK) and Siobhan Davies Dance Studio (London, UK). ’bloom’ was developed at the first Cross-Pollination Group Creative Lab residency at Siobhan Davies Dance Studio in Fall 2019 in London, UK, with funding support from the National Lottery Community Fund.
'Venus/FREAK' is a video sketch that evolves bloom for the screen, and further interrogates John Berger's analysis of nudity and nakedness ('Ways of Seeing,' 1972). 'Venus/FREAK' was developed in a virtual creative lab series directed by Tan using the Cross Pollination Group methodology in July-September 2020 and June 2022.
